View from the Cockpit
View from the Cockpit
For my "thesis" on swimming the crawl I would like to ask colleagues if they follow this principle?
Imagine you are in the cockpit of a jumbo jet and all the happenings are carrying on behind you. You need to maintain a straight trajectory through the sky.
When you are in the water your head and eyes are the cockpit and I attempt to keep that pointing forward.
1) I can just see the hand enter the water, attempting to point forward to the end of the pool. (avoiding catchup)
2) I see how accurate is the pull under the body down the centre line. (left arm better than right)
3) I try to breathe bilaterally quickly and return head to front forward position so I can see item 1 occurring.
Anyway, that's the plan.
All as per Florent Manadou:

Re: View from the Cockpit
Inspired by this clip of Schoeman and his Gopro (provided by SA recently), I sort of replicated this by swimming really close to the lane rope and looking forward with eyes above the water as in open water sighting.

For breathing I breathed to one side every two strokes.
If I was breathing to the left really close to the lane rope on my left, the aim was to see the right hand entering the water about 30 cms from the lane rope and absolutely parallel to it.
It didn't happen at first but improved with more laps. This really straightened me up.
