Beware the Candiru!
This is an Amazonian parasitic catfish which attempts to enter the body wherever it can if you swim in those rivers.
Paul Newsome of SwimSmooth goes on alarmingly about the "Bum Cheek Squeeze" which he maintains is a necessary skill of being a good swimmer. Squeezing the glutes together.
Although having never paid any attention to this it occurred to me that my student Bregor would benefit from this drill as "do as I say, not as I do" but unfortunately he didn,t have a lesson this week.
So I tried it myself under the repeated instruction "Beware the Candiru!" as if they were swimming in the pool around me.
It worked! and the benefits were
* a tauter straight body line
* straight legs
* non flapping feet like an octopus' tentacles
* kicking from the hips with the glutes
* feeling it was a better swim
