1:11 min/m Pace Efficiency

This topic might well appear as a SwimSmooth blog sometime.

It is a story from Twitter about a new SS swim coach Mike Jatautas swimming in an endless pool at 1:11 pace and comparing underwater photography of his stroke at either 36 spm or 68 spm.

The viewer is invited to decide which stroke looks more efficient.

To my simple eyes it is a no-brainer. At 36 spm he is straining every sinew and working his kick very hard to do this pace.

In contrast, at 68 spm his hands are in constant motion through the air and under the water. It looks much easier and more sustainable.

where is the link? 36 strokes/min? pretty ridiculous.

I wonder what his competition stroke rate was? 68spm doesn't seem very high for an elite.

A bit off topic, but this doesn't even seem a real 1:11/100m pace (as always with endless pools). Has anybody here ever tried an endless pool? I suspect endless pool times don't match pool times.

For instance do you guys believe this is a real 1:03/100m pace? It looks slower to me.
